WCC Research Specialist (100%)
The Job's Mission
The IMD World Competitiveness Center (WCC) delivers three World Competitiveness Rankings, namely, the Yearbook, the Digital and the Talent rankings as well as the online dataset of these rankings from 1995 onward. WCC also delivers two additional rankings, the Smart City Index and the Hinrich-IMD Sustainable Trade Index. The Center is also engaged in delivering commissioned high-quality research in the above areas. The research generated in WCC supports related content for IMD programs, as well as its own program offering.
The mission of the position is to support the production and delivery of the WCC rankings, research projects, and activities outlined above, in coordination with the WCC team members.
The WCC Research Specialist works in partnership with the Center’s Director, the Chief Economist & Head of Operations and the team.
Main Responsibilities
• Data collection and registration for the WCC rankings, as well as answering standard queries and questions from users and providing data updates
• Perform statistical or econometrical analysis with the data that serve as the basis for our reports, using standard data and statistical packages such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Stata
• Liaise with IMD World Competitiveness Center’s network of external data providers
• Provide support in different competitiveness publications and programs
• Help the IMD World Competitiveness Center’s team members in various phases of customized projects
Formula to Success
Education
• Bachelor/Master’s degree in economics, statistics, or equivalent. At least one of the undergraduate or graduate degrees must be focused on economics or related fields
Experience
• Background in economics, macroeconomics, and econometrics
• Strong research and analytical skills (data gathering, statistical analysis)
• At least 2 years of experience working in an international business environment and working with people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds
• Solid knowledge of Excel (data crunching, formatting, and data sorting), PowerPoint, and Stata or other statistical package
• Capacity to produce graphs
Competencies and skills
• Computer literate (Word, PowerPoint, InDesign), specific online databases, customized research on the internet
• Proficiency with statistical packages (SPSS, Stata, etc.)
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to work on different projects simultaneously
• High sense of personal responsibility and precision
• Strong team spirit
• Proactive mindset
• Flexible during peak periods in order to respect deadlines of publication
• Superior ability to exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive material and confidential issues
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
