To reinforce our team, we are looking for a

 

Editor/Copy editor (80-100%)


The editor role, as part of a small editing team in the R&D department, involves providing comprehensive editing support to members of the IMD community, primarily faculty and research associates/fellows. Examples of documents to be edited are case studies and teaching notes for classroom use and distribution to other academic institutions; articles for academic and practitioner journals (including FT50); various pedagogical and research-related materials. 

 

At IMD, case writing is a cornerstone of our commitment to real-world impact and excellence in executive education. We publish around 75 cases and related materials a year to add to our collection of over 3,000 original cases, which are among the most widely adopted worldwide. As editor, you would play an integral role helping to ensure and maintain the high quality of IMD’s case collection and other academic outputs. 

 


Key activities & accountabilities 

 

•    Copy editing and proofreading – correcting grammar, spelling and punctuation, including clarifying meanings, checking for consistency, smoothing language and polishing style. 
•    Structural editing – arranging the logic and flow of a manuscript, article or case in order to make it clear, concise and easy to read.
•    Rewriting and researching – may sometimes be required to correct problems with logic, clarity or style and to substantiate claims with facts. 
•    Formatting – documents are formatted according to IMD style guidelines and individual journal styles. 
•    Coordination of external editorial resources.

Note: This is not a content creation/writing role.

 

Education & experience

 

•    University degree preferred 
•    Editorial training preferred.
•    At least five years of editorial or related experience. 
•    Experience working in an academic environment (academic papers, case studies etc.).
•    An editorial network would be an advantage.


Ideal profile

 

•    English mother tongue with excellent English grammar skills (mandatory).
•    Ability to work on multiple tasks with critical deadlines and shifting priorities and to manage time as required.
•    Flexibility and efficiency in balancing workload with other editors.
•    Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and accuracy.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – tact and diplomacy essential.
•    Service-oriented with team spirit.
•    Ability to comprehend complex business concepts and academic material. 
•    Ability to work in an international, culturally diverse, fast-moving, constantly changing environment.
•    Computer literacy: Excellent Word skills, with good PowerPoint and Excel; knowledge of some Adobe programs (InDesign, Photoshop) would be an advantage. 
•    Ability to flag potential copyright issues and familiarity with copyright principles for academic writing, including knowledge of issues related to the proper and improper use of generative AI.
